The Summer Series

After the success of my 'Understanding and Teaching Grammar' session, I had many people lamenting that they couldn't make the time, or it was difficult to process all the information in the time we had together. And I get it.

I've been thinking about how best to get the information and support out to the people who are continuing to ask me when the next session might be and I think I have come up with a solution.

The Summer Series.

A set of on-demand professional development that breaks the learning into manageable chunks. The idea is that over the summer, you can engage in the prerecorded session whenever suits you best. Then, before heading back to school, I will run a live Q&A session, where people can come and ask any questions they have about the material being covered. This means that you have time to process the information, consider the questions you have and I can't run over and run out of time for questions! I will collate any questions emailed to me prior, or that come up during the session and each recipient will receive a Question and Answer sheet by the end of January to refer back to throughout the year.

Summer Series: Syntax.

Work through ways to diagnose, scope and sequence, explicitly teach and provide feedback around everything syntax. Work through the parts of speech and ensure you have the language to explore the key elements of syntax most useful and relevant for your English classroom. If identifying a preposition from a conjunction has ever had you stumped, or you find yourself writing 'awkward expression' on your student writing as feedback...this is the session for you!

Q&A drop-in session: 21st January @4pm

Summer Series: Spelling

Work through ways to diagnose, explicitly teach and establish spelling routines in your classroom. Uncover the key spelling generalisations that you want to be teaching and ways you can support the understanding and automaticity of spelling for all your students.

Q&A drop-in session: 21st January @4pm

Summer Series: Punctuation

Work through ways to diagnose, scope and sequence and explicitly teach everything punctuation. Recognise how closely linked punctuation is to teaching syntax and spelling and complement rather than add to your teaching load. Clarify your understanding of the rules around punctuation use and consider ways to build automaticity for students who 'lose' capital letters as soon as they are put under any type of time or thinking pressure.

Q&A drop-in session: 21st January @4pm
